Keith & Marjorie Lloyd

Marjorie and Keith Lloyd are passionate believers in the value of education for helping individuals, communities and nations to achieve a better future. They have been involved in various educational philanthropic activities, principally fund raising and the provision of residential property for students at Linacre College, Oxford where Keith is an Honorary Fellow. There they established scholarships schemes with UK government support for bright but needy African students to undertake one year Masters' studies at Oxford University.

Marjie

Keith has undergraduate degrees in Applied Chemistry from Liverpool Regional College of Technology and in Earth Sciences from The Open University; a Masters in Management from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Doctorate in Peptide Chemistry from Oxford. Following a 20 year career in international management with Air Products and Chemicals, and ENTHONE-OMI International Corporation, since 1991 Keith has focused on the development of family business in international investments, including venture capital and real estate. He is currently a Director of several family owned companies, and of Hitachi Chemical Europe GmbH.

Marjorie pursued her career in librarianship specialising in sciences, working in Liverpool, Oxford and Boston, Massachusetts. Upon relocation to Belgium, she undertook voluntary work whilst raising their three children, Karl, Petra and Kim. Marjorie is an avid reader, and is also a Director of OMNI Investments Limited.

After spending several decades living in Belgium, Keith and Marjorie took up residence in Guernsey, Channel Islands.

Professor George P. Hagan - Trustee

Professor George Hagan holds an undergraduate degree in Philosophy and a Masters in African Studies from the University of Ghana, plus a BLitt and a Doctor in Philosophy in Social Anthropolgy from Oxford University (Linacre College). He brings a wealth of experience to TEST for Ghana. His distinguished career includes academia (he was the former Dean of Students at the University of Ghana, and the Director of the Institute of African Studies), politics (a Presidential candidate for the CPP in the 2000 elections), and Directorships of Institutions such as the State Construction Company. He was formerly the Chairman of the Boards of both the Academic Committee of National Film and Television Institute, and the Electricity Corporation of Ghana.

Professor Hagan is currently Chairman of the Ghana National Commission on Culture. He is married to Dr Maria Hagan, the former Director of the National Eye Care Programme in Ghana and they have three children.

Mrs Kokui Adu - Trustee

Kokui Adzo Adu (nee Aidam), Heads the Students Financial Aid office at the University of Ghana, the first of its kind to be established in a public tertiary educational institution in the country. She also serves as a Trustee on the Students Loan Trust Fund Board which was established in 2005 to provide financial assistance to Ghanaian students attending accredited tertiary institutions in Ghana. She has a Diploma in Data Processing from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, BSC in Administration from the University of Ghana and an MBA in Corporate Finance and Investments from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, USA.

She has worked in various roles in tertiary institutions and the financial services industry, including positions in senior management, at the University of Ghana, The Securities and Exchange Commission and with the Assurance and Research Institute of KPMG LLP, in Montvale, New Jersey, USA.. Her keen insight and in-depth knowledge of the tertiary education programmes and financing, and her combination of drive and expertise will provide TEST with an invaluable resource.

She is married and has two daughters.

Professor David Millar - Trustee

Prof. Dr. David Millar; a Ghanaian. His first degree was in Ghana and latter degrees in Wageningen University – Holland. He is a professor in Agriculture and Environmental Science with special interest in indigenous knowledge and hence endogenous development. Most of his research work is in worldviews, cultures, spirituality and development. He started as a development practitioner (with GO, NGO, and World Bank) for about 15 years before going into academia. He is currently the Dean for Research and Postgraduate Studies and also the Acting Pro-Vice Chancellor (Acting Vice Rector) of University for Development Studies.

Emmanuel Tachie-Obeng - Trustee

Emmanuel Tachie-Obeng is trained in Forestry and its relation to Land Use and Natural Resource Management at Linacre College, the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana. Since 2001, he has work with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Ghana as Senior Programme Officer. He is currently pursuing a sandwich PhD programme with University of Ghana and Pennsylvania State University in the United States on climate change adaptation in Africa.

He doubles as a director to EcoRestorations, a non Governmental Organisation (NGO), which has a vision of adding value to community protected areas (CPAs) to enhance their biophysical environment and promote their local and global significance for the benefit of society.

His major contributions have been Land use land cover trend assessment and re-classification of ecological zones of Ghana with US Geological Survey as well as mapping geographical locations of CPAs to expose their existence and socio-cultural significance to enhance their potential for nature-tourism, climate change mitigation and livelihood enhancement of the local communities.

He is 40 with three children; Fosuah, Asuah, Aso and an adopted child Obenewaah.

Anita Adanu - Trustee

Anita Aduna (nee Takura) has a first class honours degree in Zoology from the University of Ghana, Legon. After her undergraduate degree she studied at the Oxford University Centre for Environment (OUCE) where she obtained her postgraduate degree in Environmental Change and Management. She is a Norman and Ivy Lloyd scholar as well as an alumnus of Linacre College, Oxford University.

After her studies in the United Kingdom, Anita returned to Ghana to begin her career in environmental management. She worked briefly with the AngloGold Ashanti Induapriem mine in Tarkwa and has recently taken up an appointment with the Ghana Wildlife Society where she is currently the manager in charge of special projects.

Mark Kofi Fynn - Trustee

Mark Kofi Fynn holds an undergraduate degree in Agricultural Economics from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi Ghana. Following a one year appointment as a Teaching Assistant at the Agricultural Economics Department of KNUST, he studied for an MSc in Environmental Change and Management at Oxford University as a Lloyd Scholar.

Subsequently, he worked as a Sustainable Development Officer for Stakeholder Forum for a Sustainable Future, an international multistakeholder organisation in London, and the East Midlands Regional Assembly before returning to Ghana. Currently, he works for the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) as an agribusiness advisor in Tamale, Ghana.

Mariama Awumbila - Trustee

Mariama Awumbila holds a Bachelors degree in Geography with Sociology, a post Graduate Diploma (Population Studies) from the University of Ghana and a Ph.D. (Geography) from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK. She is currently Head, Centre for Migration Studies and also Senior Lecturer, Department of Geography and Resource Development both at the University of Ghana. Her Research Interests includes population, gender, environment and development inter-relationships, migration and development and in participatory research methodologies. She has undertaken extensive research and published in the areas of migration, livelihoods and development, land and natural resource tenure and management, gender and development and poverty reduction strategies.

She has also provided extension services for several national and international agencies and community based organizations in Ghana. She is a member of the International Geographical Union (IGU) steering committee on Gender and Geography, the union of African Population Scientists, and the Ghana Geographical Association. She has served on several national Boards including the Ghana Statistical Service Board, the Ghana National Council for Tertiary Education, the University Council of the University for Development Studies, the Advisory Council of World Vision among others..

Jennie Travers

Jennifer Auronwyn Travers (Nee Williams) was born in South Wales 1946, and educated at St. Joseph's Convent High School, Tredegar House, Newport, South Wales, followed by Secretarial College, Cardiff. Jennie worked in Local Government prior to her marriage in 1967 to John Richard Lewis Travers, and subsequently in various administrative support positions. Jennie and her growing family have lived in Brussels for 32 years, where she is a member of the British and Commonwealth Women's Club, and of the Rigenee Golf Club. Jennie is also a key Trustee of Schools Around The World, a charity set up in 2005. Schools Around the World aims to promote increased aspirations among young people through educational activities (primarily 11-16 years old) whose opportunities are limited by social, domestic or financial circumstances.

Ishmael Dodoo

Ishmael Jesse-Dodoo has a first class honors degree in natural resources management from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science of Technology (KNUST), and a postgraduate degree with a specialty in environmental policy and governance from Environmental Change Institute, Oxford University. He is also a Norman and Ivy Lloyd scholar as well as an alumnus of Linacre College, Oxford University.

Ish (as he is affectionately called) began his career with Ghana Wildlife Society (GWS) where he developed and managed GWS’s forestry conservation and advocacy unit. He then joined ProForest Ltd, an international natural resources consultancy based in Oxford, UK advising government bodies (such as the European Commission), NGOs, academia, multi lateral investors (such as the IFC/ World Bank) and a range of private companies/ investors operating both working in the food and energy sectors. Whilst at ProForest, he helped established the first ever sustainability scheme for global trade in palm oil under the auspices of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) initiative. And also contributed to many global debates on sustainability of biofuels through certification programmes.

Ish has worked in more than 20 countries around the world including several African countries such as Nigeria, Cameroon, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Togo and his native Ghana. Currently Ish is based in Liberia and works for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) recruited through the Leadership Development Programme (LEAD) and being groomed for future leadership of the UN system. As a Programme and Operations Specialist in UNDP, Ish provides oversight for several portfolios including strategic management of the Country Office business operations as well as Heading the Environment and Energy Team. Ish also coordinates UNDP’s engagement with civil society on promotion of good governance and Rule of Law. In particular, leading implementation of peacebuilding programmes aimed at strengthening Liberian Government’s State capacity for consolidating peace as a basis for sustainable development.

Leander Kandilige

Leander Kandilige was born in Navrongo, the Upper East Region of Ghana. He attended both his primary and secondary education (O’levels) in Navrongo at Monsignor Abatey Primary and Notre Dame Minor Seminary Secondary Schools respectively. He then completed his Advanced Level education at Opoku Ware School in Kumasi, Ghana. Leander read Political Science and Philosophy at the University of Ghana from 1996 to 1999 and graduated with First Class Honours. He was then hired as a Teaching Assistant at the Political Science Department, University of Ghana. Leander gained a Master of Arts degree from the Legon Centre for International Affairs (2000/2001).

Leander was awarded a DFID/Lloyd shared scholarship to read for a Master of Studies degree at Linacre College, Oxford University (2001/2002). Leander also completed a Postgraduate Certificate qualification in Managing Voluntary Organisations at University of Southampton (2005/2006).

Leander has worked as co-founder and president of the Ghana Wildlife Society (University of Ghana branch); Legislative Research Assistant, Parliament of Ghana; Project and Network Co-ordinator, Oxford Development Education Centre; Research Assistant, Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (University of Oxford); Interventions Officer, Department for Works and Pensions (UK) etc. Leander currently works as an Area Manager for the English Churches Housing Group (part of the Riverside Group) in the UK. Leander manages 12 full-time and 9 part-time staff. His employer provides social housing for homeless people in England and works with over 140 local authorities across England.

Leander is due to start his research into a doctorate degree at the University of Oxford (Department of Geography and the Environment) in October 2008.

TEST for Ghana is honoured to count Seth Agyapong-Mensah as its legal representative as well as a key contributor and supporter. Seth is a practising Barrister and Solicitor associated with Fugar & Company in Accra, and a Lecturer in Commercial Law at the Accra Polytechnic, School of Management and Business Studies. He specialises in company and commercial law, property law and conveyancing, administration of probate and estates, civil litigation and family law.

Saeed Abdul-Razak

Saeed is employed by Civic Response, an Accra based NGO, as Campaigner Climate Change. Civic Response is the current Secretariat for Forest Watch Ghana, a coalition of 32 Ghanaian NGOs and Saeed works within their climate change section on a wide spectrum of projects from community projects through national and regional issues. He has an undergraduate degree in Land Economy(BSc) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technololgy and a Masters in Environmental Change and Management from Linacre College, Oxford where he was a Norman and Ivy Lloyd Scholar. Saeed played a key role in the analysis of the applications for the first Scholarship awards by TEST for GHANA.

Emma Marjorie Awuku

Emma Marjorie Awuku is the current Norman and Ivy Lloyd Scholar at Linacre College, Oxford studying for an MSc degree in Environmental Change and Management. She has a First Class Honours undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from KNUST and work experience principally in Microbiology with Commodities Processing Industries Ltd and Quality Systems Management with the Coca Cola Bottling Company of Ghana Ltd.

Karl Lloyd - Webmaster

Karl has an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and a masters in Computing from Imperial College London as well as a Masters in Business and Administration from Exeter University. Karl is a former bond trader and private client discretionary portfolio manager, and he currently works as a data management consultant for local government in the United Kingdom. Karl resides with his wife Judi and cat Nero in Hertfordshire, England.

Kim Erik Lloyd

Kim Lloyd is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Birmingham, where he subsequently took a Masters in Computer Science. He then embarked on a career with EdF Trading in London starting as a Scheduler He is currently a Senior Electricity Trader.

Petra Francoise Christie

Petra Christie (nee Lloyd) has an undergraduate degree in Sociology from the University of Kent and a Masters in Hospitality Management from Cornell University. She has pursued an international career in hotel management with the Four Seasons and the Starwood Hotel Groups working in London, Paris, Washington DC, Los Angeles and San Diego. She presently lives in Miami Beach with her husband Christopher where they both work in hotel industry management.
